2,100 middle school students. 1 awesome experience!

Cue the crickets softly chirping and tumbleweed blowing through our hallways!

It’s mid-January. Our new semester hasn’t started. Probably quiet around here, right?

Not quite!

We had an incredibly eventful – and FUN – week here, as 2,100 area seventh and eighth-grade students toured Moraine Park’s Fond du Lac Campus for the Career Connections Academy. The academy was organized by Fond du Lac Works, a division of the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce, and let students go on “virtual tours” through numerous local businesses while seeing what jobs are available in agriculture, healthcare, services and manufacturing!

The school districts that participated include: Campbellsport, Fond du Lac, Lomira, North Fond du Lac, Oakfield and Ripon. Additionally, Faith Lutheran, Redeemer Lutheran, St. Mary Spring’s Academy and St. Peter’s Lutheran. From there, 45 area business representatives and Moraine Park faculty were involved as presenters, teaching the students about a wide array of careers.

“It went great! Every single one of the classrooms showcased a different career through a hands-on activity and presentation. Students had the opportunity to learn more about what may or may not interest them, which will enable them make more informed decisions about their career pathway later in life,” said Bernadette Seefeld, Director of Educational Programs at the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce.
