It has been a long road for Moraine Park Alumna, Ashley Cruz of Fond du Lac, who earned her cosmetology degree in 2004. She came to the College a young expectant mother looking to start a cosmetology career. While many years have passed since she walked the halls of Moraine Park as a student, she still speaks highly of her time at the College.

“I don’t remember a lot about my time at Moraine Park, but I do remember how accommodating my instructors were,” said Ashley. “I gave birth to my son halfway through the program. My instructors were willing to help me succeed, and that helped motivate me to want to come back and finish my degree.”

Today, Ashley is 14 years into her career. She works at MoJo Hair Studio in Fond du Lac and this November she will celebrate 5 years there.

“I’ve learned so much in my career,” said Ashley. “Being a cosmetologist is so much more than doing hair, it’s also about building relationships.”

Ashley went on to explain that many of her clients have become her family and that she values and appreciates each one.

“My advice to those interested in a cosmetology career is to build relationships,” she said. “I started out with zero clients and I had to work hard to build trust and loyalty. When I switched salons 5 years ago, my clientele followed me. That is my definition of success.”

Today, Ashley is busy with a full client list, a huge accomplishment for any cosmetologist.

We are thrilled for Ashley’s success and proud to be a part of her journey!
