Hired Before Graduation: “One of the best decisions I have made”

Male Moraine Park student hired before graduation

Does the thought of going to school – or going back, for some of you – make you a little nervous?

If so, you’re not alone! Cody Serstad had those same uneasy feelings swirling in the pit of his stomach, too.

Fast forward, though, and Cody found himself not only with a diploma in his chosen field – Electrical Power Distribution (power line construction and maintenance, for those unaware!), he had an amazing time at Moraine Park Technical College in the process, and even landed a job before graduation, too!

It was worth chasing those inner butterflies away, he said, and for anyone else reluctant to chase their dreams, Cody feels you should take the plunge, too …

“Do it! I was nervous to come back to school but it has been one of the best decisions I have made.”

Part of what helped Cody not only adjust to life back at school, but excel, were his instructors.

“I couldn’t have asked for better instructors to teach me the basics in my field. My instructor Jeff Vonau has been the biggest impact on my education.”

And about that job Cody got? It’s at Alliant Energy as a Line Mechanic Apprentice, and Cody said he’s excited at what possibilities await.

“I hope to continue learning much more in the next four years of my apprenticeship and the years to follow. I just hope to have a long and rewarding career.”

We hope so, too!
