Hired Before Graduation: “You are never too old to do amazing things …”

Female Moraine Park student hired before graduation

“You are never too old to do amazing things with your life.”

Amy Vanden Boogaard says that with confidence. And she should. With hard work and a great attitude, Amy has become a shining example of just how amazing things can be.

At at age some may not traditionally consider “tech savvy,” not only did she excel in her courses and get a degree in Information Technology – Web Development/Design Specialist from Moraine Park Technical College, she had a job lined up in her field before earning her diploma.

“I have been hired by Contree Sprayer & Equipment as a Graphics Coordinator,” Amy said, noting she hopes to help take the company to the “next level of advertising.”

Her duties include designing for the web, print, email blasts and social media. Part of Amy’s training for her new job was through the TAACCCT 3 Interface grant. She earned the content management certificate in our first cohort, summer of 2014. Her certificate classes laddered into the degree.

So if you’ve considered a career in web design or development, but have self-doubt or worry about obstacles in your way, Amy said don’t let that stop you.

“Go for it!,” she said. “Believe in yourself!”

Amy said you’ll also find plenty of others that believe in you, too, at Moraine Park.

“The instructors at MPTC were so helpful in my journey … and my family, they were so amazing while I was busy with classes.”
