Identity redefined for MPTC

Moraine Park 100 years of Innovation brochure

noun

The definition of identity is who you are, the way you think about yourself, the way you are viewed by the world and the characteristics that define you.

As we charge into 2016, Moraine Park Technical College’s marketing department has been given the opportunity to challenge the perception of our college identity. Not only the way we perceive ourselves, but how we are perceived by the community, students, stakeholders, local businesses, etc. Sound like a big task? Darn right!

When someone asks you about your  “identity”, what would you say? What defines you? How do YOU define you? Once you’ve answered that question, would you say others perceive you the same way you perceive yourself? Now that’s the challenge that we face.

Moraine Park has long been associated with a tradition of education in our community for over 100 years. The iconic tree logo with the “envelope” shape – that everyone of course knows represents a moraine…right? Alright, so who out there didn’t get that? Strange that it wasn’t clear, but certainly not surprising. We all love the nice tree, but is a sedentary tree really representative of a college on the go? Moraine Park is leading the way in many areas of health care, manufacturing, engineering and community involvement. We aren’t sitting still like a tree. We’re moving forward, evolving, making things happen. We aren’t sitting in the park feeding the birds, we’re on the cutting edge of education and technology. We’re looking at how we educate our students, prepare them for a global workplace, engage and serve our community. We’re busy! We certainly aren’t sitting on the park bench with a bag of crumbled bread. We’re making things happen and helping our students realize their dreams and meet the next challenge they will face. That’s our identity. That’s how we see ourselves, that’s how we want the world to see us.

I invite you to share with us what you feel is the “Moraine Park identity.” How do you see us by the definition: Identity is who you are, the way you think about yourself, the way you are viewed by the world and the characteristics that define you. Feel free to email me your thoughts as we would like to incorporate that feedback into our exploration and design process. Send emails to bputzer@morainepark.edu I’d love to hear from you!

The marketing department at Moraine Park is re-branding. We’re working to develop a new logo, a new mark, logotype and new branding to represent this forward-thinking attitude. We have embarked on this soul-searching design quest to find the visuals that best embody the spirit and determination of our colleges in the communities we serve. With the cooperation of a really great team, we’re making strides and turning over all of the creative stones to discover our identity AND make sure we tell our story the way we see it unfolding for the next 100 years. In just a few short months we will be wrangling in these thoughts, these ideas, these perceptions. We’ll wrap our minds around them, refine them and create an identity that tells the world who we are.

Stay tuned…
