IT’s Coming to a Campus Near You

Interested in taking IT classes but Moraine Park Technical College’s Fond du Lac campus is too far away?  Then I have good news for you. The IT Tech Support Specialist program is expanding to the West Bend campus starting this fall.

The program focuses mainly on entry-level Help Desk Associate and PC Technician positions that can be the launchpad for a lengthy career in information technology. Positions along the way could include Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, and even management and upper-management roles.

The Tech Support lab, like the one in Fond du Lac, will be

setup with it’s own internet access and dedicated lab computers. This gives us the flexibility to really dig into the computers without fear of affecting other classrooms on campus. We cover virus and malware removal, operating system installation and troubleshooting, hardware component troubleshooting and installation.  We also get into more theoretical topics like project management and what it’s like to work on a help desk. The learning is centered on a corporate IT perspective so students know what to expect when they start working in a formal IT department.

The expansion to the West Bend campus allows us to meet several needs. Our students have more options for where they can take their classes.  They’re no longer restricted to just the Fond du Lac campus.  It also allows us to increase the number of students we can have enrolled in the program courses.  Students graduating with degrees in IT are in high demand right now as there are a lot of job openings in the industry.  The West Bend expansion will allow us to help fill the needs of our industry partners.

All program courses in IT-Tech Support Specialist Associate’s Degree program will be available at the West Bend campus. You’ll still have the option of taking classes in Fond du Lac if those are more convenient. Some of the courses will also apply to the IT-Network Specialist Associate’s Degree program should students choose to pursue both degrees.

If you’re interested in the program or IT in general I encourage you to check out the Moraine Park – Networking & Tech Support Facebook group. Anyone can join the group and you can interact with the instructors and many of our students. You can also see some of the other stuff going on in the Networking and Tech Support programs.

If you would like more information about the programs visit the Tech Support and Network Specialist sites or check out some of the other programs Moraine Park Technical College has to offer.

We will also be hosting our Girls Make IT Happen event in June.  I encourage any high-school-aged women to check out this event designed to introduce young women to IT careers.  Please check out morainepark.edu/itgirls for more information and to register.
