“Keep On Trucking!” Juli Eager- Hired Before Graduation

“My name is Juli. I live in Waupun with my husband in a house that we bought last year. We absolutely love being homeowners. In our free time we like to make improvements on the house and when the weather is nice we like to go on Harley rides. I don’t have my own, but I keep telling myself that someday I will.

I will be graduating in May from the Medical Laboratory Technician program at Moraine Park. I chose this program because it’s more behind the scenes of the hospital, but you still get to work as a team and help the patients. Communication with other staff is a big part of this profession. I have really enjoyed this program because the teachers are fun and get to know their students. There were a few time Linda and Dwane had to give me a little pep talk to lift my spirits. They are educated in the profession and truly enjoy teaching the students.

I was happy to find a job at Beaver Dam Reference Lab a week before spring break. That’s 9 weeks before graduation! I will be working third shift in the lab. It’s a great starting point for an MLT student, you get to learn how to work with the other departments of the hospital and make decisions on your own. There are many career options for this field and a variety of paths that you can take to further your degree. In the future I would like to go back to school and earn my Bachelor’s degree. I have also thought about moving on to a bigger hospital in the future. I like the fast paced environment of the lab and the interesting cases that come through the door. Every day is something different.

Now that I look back at the first semester its surreal to think that I am already graduating. It has been a long journey in between, but has been well worth it. Advice that I would give to future students is to “keep on trucking”. It is testing at times but I had to remember that I was going to enjoy this when I was done and to keep my head up.”
