Moraine Park Celebrates Hispanic/Latino Heritage

Fiesta Beaver Dam

Moraine Park is celebrating Hispanic/Latino Heritage with multiple events throughout the months of September and October on all three campuses.  We wish to invite all staff, students, and the public to celebrate diversity and enjoy cultural food and activities.  The celebration begins on September 15th with Fiesta Beaver Dam and ends on October 15th.

September 15th is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.  Mexico and Chile also celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18.

“One thing to understanding diversity is to realize there are many things which make each of us unique, and it’s often more than what we see in one another.  Many times, it includes our experiences or point of views.  So how can we start to understand one another? Simple. Start by attending an event you normally may not have gone to and try to learn just one thing about the culture or group you thought were different from yourself, and what better way to do that than to attend one of several Hispanic/Latino events scheduled between now and October.  You will have a good time, enjoy some great food and may start to realize there are more similarities than differences.” Steve Pepper, Student Veterans Specialist

Moraine Park is also a sponsor and participating in Fiesta Beaver Dam at Swan Park in Beaver Dam and will be having educational and fun activities for the whole family.   Come experience Latino food, music, activities, and stop by our table for some Latino trivia.

“Our mission at Moraine Park Technical College is preparing students for success in a diverse and globally connected world.  These types of cultural community celebrations and are essential- there is no better education than experience. I encourage everyone to come out, experience something new and support the communities around us.” Laurice Snyder, Diversity Relations Manager

Celebrating diversity is one way for all of us to come together, meet new people, and taste different cultural treats.  Consider attending one of the many festivals and events scheduled throughout the state during the month of September and October.
