We all have goals of living independently and being self-sufficient but often obstacles and challenges get in our way. On May 11, nine students were able to celebrate successful completion of a 2-year Learning for Independence (LFI) Program, moving them one step closer to meeting their goal of independence. Surrounded by family, friends, instructors and school staff, the students shared their LFI program portfolios and final comments of the program.
There’s no doubt the end of the school year is an exciting time for students, but it’s also a time of high stress and anxiety.
Knowing the need for stress-relief, Student Government set out to plan activities that would help alleviate some of the pressure that students face as they complete year-end projects and study for final exams. Each campus Student Senate offered opportunities for students to take time out for themselves and relax.
Moraine Park faculty, long known for their excellence in education, also know the stress of getting to excellence for both students and staff. Nursing instructor Heather Evenson has used the power of laughter throughout her classes to relax students on final examination days and this year she “T-laxed” the E building.
May 19 was a demanding day for nursing classes as they took cumulative exams, the EMT program was in final preparation for national practical testing and the faculty and staff were in survival mode to finish all of their “to-do’s”.
Congratulations to Moraine Park Technical College’s Class of 2017 – and best wishes in your journey ahead! In honor of your accomplishments, here’s 217 pics of our 2017 Commencement! Do you recognize any familiar faces?
Within a profound scene of smiles, laughter, joyful tears and dreams come true, Moraine Park Technical College hosted its 2017 Commencement Ceremony in the Fond du Lac High School Field House on Saturday, May 20.
Nearly 350 graduates took part in the event. In all, the Class of 2017 had nearly 800 graduate candidates complete their studies to receive associate of applied science degrees and technical diplomas.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Morna Foy, impressed upon graduates the need to enjoy the moment, but also look to the future.
“You have definitely arrived at an important milestone, and you’re to be recognized and celebrated for that. That’s why we’re together. But I’d offer that there’s now much more to be done,” Moy said. “Think of it this way: You’re like a coiled spring, or a sling-shot pulled back. You’re ready for launch. That’s what scientists call “potential energy.” It’s the energy an object has because of its position, rather than its motion.
UPDATED: May 21, 2017: Moraine Park is featured on Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien today. Correspondent Jessica Jallings reached out to Moraine Park, as she learned about the College’s innovative and extensive training of employees for the manufacturing workforce.
