Moraine Park Technical College is giving young women the chance to try a nontraditional occupation with the Women Weld event, set for Saturday, April 30. Moraine Park’s Beaver Dam campus will host the one-day, hands-on event to give high school junior and senior girls the opportunity to experience the nontraditional occupation of welding. Participants will learn welding techniques and safety, fabricating, assembly and more.

Students can come alone or bring an adult female with them, over the age of 21. At the end of the day, those who attend will have a decorative shepherd’s hook with a personalized nameplate to keep.

Registration is limited to 12 pairs with the registration deadline Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Moraine Park will supply scrap metal, welding equipment, food and beverages. Attendees will be able to use welding helmets, jackets, gloves and safety glasses.
