Moraine Park apprentices finish on top

    The following Moraine Park Technical College apprentices placed within the top three (in their respective divisions) during the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) annual apprentice skills competition, held in Oshkosh on Oct. 5, 2001.

     In the plumbing category, Derek Anderson and Dave Ogden of J.D. Ogden Plumbing received first and second places, respectively.

    In the carpentry division, Kim Butler Channel of John Sauermilch, General Contractor, received first place, and Matt Sprenger of Damrow Construction received third place.

    In the electrical area, Joel Brill of Walters Electric received first place.

     The Skill Competition is an annual event where apprentices compete against one another in different areas such as safety; appearance and care of their tools; construction accuracy; sequence; and timing and quality of workmanship. The competition consists of a lengthy written exam and a practical project.

     Moraine Park apprentice instructors include: Pat O'Neil, plumbing; Jerry Schwengels and Paul Ewardt, carpentry; and Jim Sweeney and Terry Kettner, electrical.

     All first place winners will take part in ABC's national competition, which will be held in New Orleans, Feb. 21 - March 2, 2002.
