At an October meeting of Moraine Park Technical College’s District Student Government, two Moraine Park students were elected to the Wisconsin Student Government (WSG).

Last year's WSG president hands the gavel to Diamond Avalos, the new president.

Diamond Avalos of Beaver Dam, a member of the Moraine Park Beaver Dam campus Student Senate, was elected WSG governor for 2007-08 and will represent Moraine Park.

Joe Calliari of Campbellsport, a member of the Fond du Lac campus Student Senate, was elected WSG lieutenant governor and will serve for 2007-09, moving into the governor role in his second year.

Avalos was also elected president of the WSG by other WSG governors from throughout the state during a meeting held at Moraine Park’s West Bend campus. Keith Olsen from Chippewa Valley Technical College was elected WSG vice president, and Dan Fishbeck from Nicolet Area Technical College was elected treasurer.

The Wisconsin Student Government is a student-run organization representing more than 460,000 technical college students across the state. WSG participates in the shared governance of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and seeks to advance higher education by empowering current and future students to advocate on their own behalf for the accessibility, affordability and quality of the WTCS. WSG addresses political and other issues that affect students, faculty, the system's financial concerns and its existence.

Moraine Park’s Beaver Dam, Fond du Lac and West Bend campuses each have a Student Senate to provide student activities and to address student government business. Moraine Park’s District Student Government addresses college-wide student issues and provides tri-campus student activities.
