Last year, Moraine Park Technical College passed a quality “checkup” by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (NCA) of Colleges and Schools’ Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP). Now AQIP has reaffirmed Moraine Park’s accreditation.
Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and a member of the North Central Association, Moraine Park was accepted into AQIP in 2001 and submitted its first Systems Portfolio in May 2005, addressing AQIP criteria and describing context, processes, results and improvements in each institutional system.
Every seven years, AQIP reviews the accredited status of participating institutions. A Commission-trained AQIP Review Panel examines each organization's current Systems Portfolio and six years of Action Projects, Systems Appraisals, and other interactions with AQIP and the Commission to ensure that both the institution and AQIP know how the evidence in the Systems Portfolio aligns with and supports the Commission's Criteria for Accreditation.
According to the Reaffirmation of Accreditation Recommendation, “Evidence indicates that Moraine Park demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement at a level that warrants continued participation in AQIP.”
“The reaffirmation of Moraine Park’s AQIP accreditation is really a reaffirmation of the quality of our staff, our processes, and the College as a whole,” said Dr. Gayle Hytrek, Moraine Park president. “I commend our staff who worked tirelessly to implement this new accreditation process and, as a result, continuous quality improvement processes throughout everything we do. Our students, staff and taxpayers have all benefited from the improvements we have made. The notification of the Reaffirmation of Accreditation is just the frosting on the cake.”
The Higher Learning Commission is an independent corporation and one of two Commission members of the NCA, which was founded in 1895 as one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. The HLC accredits, and thereby grants membership in the Commission and the NCA, to degree-granting educational institutions in the North Central region, including Wisconsin. HLC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
