Moraine Park Technical College Veterinary Technician program director and instructor Laura Lien, CVT, BS, has earned the additional credential of Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Large Animal Internal Medicine.
The Academy of Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians (AIMVT) credentialed its charter members on June 3 at the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Forum in San Antonio, Texas.
According to Raj Pathare, Moraine Park dean of trades and manufacturing, “This is an impressive achievement for Laura and enhances the Veterinary Technician program’s credentials at Moraine Park.”
AIMVT consists of veterinary technician specialists working in four subspecialties: cardiology, large animal internal medicine, oncology and small animal internal medicine. These specialists are graduates of a program in veterinary technology and/or credentialed to practice in their state. They receive advanced training, often under a veterinary diplomate of internal medicine, cardiology or oncology. The credentialing process is arduous and contains many requirements, including the completion of advanced skills and knowledge lists, continuing education, work experience, case logs, case reports, letters of recommendation, examination in internal medicine and examination in the specialty.
Last September, Moraine Park’s Veterinary Technician associate of applied science degree program received a provisional accreditation from the American Veterinary Medicine Association. The program begins its third year when the fall semester gets under way Aug. 25.
