Starting March 23, students entering grades 6-8 in the fall can sign up for summer fun at Moraine Park Technical College’s annual Tech Knowledge College. The program enables middle-school students to explore careers and college through 23 hands-on activities.
This year’s program takes place Aug. 4-6 at the Fond du Lac campus and includes four new activities:
Aprenda Español: Explore the Spanish culture! Make a piñata, learn to speak Spanish and more.
Fix It, Tune It, Ride It!: Are you a future Tour de France rider? Learn to fix flats, fine-tune your own bicycle and build one. On the final day, enjoy a long bike ride through the countryside and the city.
Layout and Design Through Scrapbooking: Creativity is the foundation of many careers, and scrapbooking teaches design, layout and balance. Learn different techniques while scrapbooking your favorite summer photos.
Sign Language: Use your hands and facial expressions to communicate with others as you learn the basics of American Sign Language. Explore views of deafness as a culture or a disability, and whether sign language is the same around the world.
A few of the 19 other activities include:
Comfort Foods with Future Concepts: Discover new ways to prepare timeless classics such as meatloaf, grilled cheese and more.
Computer Lingo: Explore the language of Visual Basic programming as you create a variety of computer games.
Electroniks: Almost everything you touch, see and hear today contains electronics. Experience the fundamentals of electronics while assembling your own electronic kit.
Hair Techniques: Spend time in Moraine Park’s Techniques salon and day spa to learn the latest in up-dos, braiding and styling.
Ready, Set, Build!: Create a blueprint to build a catapult, learn how to safely use power tools to build it, then launch projectiles across the room.
Rescue 911 – Be an EMT: Learn basic EMT skills such as CPR, splinting and bleeding control, and how to handle situations such as choking, burn care and more.
