Moraine Park students compete in SkillsUSA

Moraine Park Technical College students from the Barber/Cosmetologist, Electricity and Welding programs recently participated in the 2009 Wisconsin SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference April 21-22 in Madison.


Students from Moraine Park’s Barber/Cosmetologist program competed at SkillsUSA for the first time, with great results. Jenna Becker of Hartford placed first in the Cosmetology competition and will compete in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, June 21-26.


Amber Beck of Campbellsport placed second in the Nails competition, while Breanne Wilson of Fond du Lac placed third in the Cosmetology competition.


Shawn Kosek of West Bend, an Electricity program student, took second place in the Industrial Wiring competition.


Three Welding program students competed: Nathan Schwind of Fond du Lac, who placed 5th; Pablo Lugo of Fond du Lac, who placed 6th; and James Hebert of Malone, who placed 12th.


Each of these Moraine Park students will graduate from their programs on May 16.


SkillsUSA is the showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation. The philosophy of the event is to reward students for excellence, involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and keep training relevant to employers' needs.
