Moraine Park Technical College is offering two writing classes at Mayville High School for anyone who would like to supplement their income through freelance writing, improve their writing skills in the workplace or simply write for fun.
“Non-Fiction Writing: An Overview” (course number 301-406-21538) will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. Explore the world of newspapers, magazines, memoirs, journals, creative non-fiction and more. Learn various forms of non-fiction writing while expanding your writing skills. Writing exercises, prompts and independently generated ideas will provide a jumping-off point for in-class writing sessions. The cost is $14.14.
“Writing for Magazines and Newspapers” (course number 801-407-21539) will be offered on Tuesdays, Oct. 6 through Nov. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. Discuss the differences between magazine and newspaper writing and learn how to generate ideas, find a focus, structure your writing, gather information, connect with your market and write your article. Includes writing exercises, prompts and independently generated ideas to introduce you to the publishing arena. The cost is $49.63.
