An Introduction to Ballroom Dancing class will be offered each month on Monday evenings at Moraine Park Technical College’s Fond du Lac campus, with the first monthly session beginning Oct. 5.

Taught by Julie Wilson, the owner of Shut Up & Dance who has been teaching ballroom dancing at Moraine Park for nine years, the class runs for four weeks with a new session beginning the first Monday of every month. From 6 to 8 p.m., students with no prior dance experience are invited to take part in the beginner lesson and learn basic leading, following, rhythm, timing and a few simple patterns in a variety of dances including waltz, tango, foxtrot, cha cha, rumba, swing and salsa. A different dance is taught each month. At 7:30 p.m., 30 minutes of practice time is allowed between the beginner and intermediate classes to give beginners a chance to practice what they have learned that evening and the intermediate dancers the opportunity to warm up prior to their lesson.

From 8 to 9:30 p.m. an intermediate level class is offered. Students must have a good comprehension of the basics in each of the dances listed above. Technique, styling and more intricate material will be covered. Instructor approval is required for this class.

Cost for the four-week session is $39, or $21 for students 62 and older. Please call the Student Services Center to register at 920-924-3207.
