Laura Lien, CVT, BS, VTS (Large Animal Internal Medicine), was awarded the Wisconsin Veterinary Technician Association (WVTA) Veterinary Technician of the Year Award at the WVTA fall convention.
Lien is the program director and an instructor for the Veterinary Technician associate of applied science degree program at Moraine Park Technical College. She was nominated by fellow Moraine Park instructor Dr. Kelly Mowell and by Dr. Janet Romich.
This prestigious award is sponsored by Marshfield Laboratories and consists of an engraved plaque and a $100 check, plus a WVTA membership and fees waived for all continuing education events for the coming year.
Lien graduated from Madison Area Technical College in 1996 and earned a bachelor’s degree in technical management in 2005 from Franklin University.
Prior to becoming an instructor and director for Moraine Park’s Veterinary Technician program, Lien worked at the University of Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for eight years in Large Animal Internal Medicine (LAIM). She earned the University of Wisconsin – School of Veterinary Medicine Distinguished Veterinary Technician of the Year Award in 2001, 2003 and 2005.
Lien completed a Veterinary Technician Specialty in Internal Medicine with the Academy of Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians and served as their director-at-large for the Large Animal sub-specialization. The academy is closely affiliated with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She has co-authored several published articles based on research data, developed an ancillary text for a textbook and published a case report in the January 2007 issue of Veterinary Technician Journal.
