Moraine Park Technical College and the Moraine Park Association for Career and Technical Education (MPACTE) are joining the celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month throughout February.

The 2010 theme is CTE: Building Blocks for a Successful Career. “A successful career has a strong foundation and a technical education can provide the building blocks for that foundation,” said Daurren McCarthy, president of MPACTE.

According to the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), there are 15.6 million secondary and postsecondary career and technical education students in the U.S. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that nearly one-third of the fastest-growing occupations will require an associate degree or a postsecondary vocational certificate. Research also indicates that 80 percent of current and emerging occupations require two-year technical degrees, while just 20 percent require baccalaureate degrees.

MPACTE will hold its annual awards banquet Feb. 8 to recognize individuals and business for their dedication to and excellence in career and technical education. Awards include the 2010 MPACTE Professional Excellence Awards, the C.L. Greiber Award of Merit in the Business and Individual categories, the Rodney Pasch Leadership Award and the Longevity Award that is given to an employee who has worked in career and technical education for more than 25 years.

A variety of events are planned throughout the month including Discover Moraine Park, a free event on Feb. 9, 10 and 11 at the Fond du Lac, West Bend and Beaver Dam campuses, respectively, for anyone who wants to pursue a technical college education.Discover how to complete the steps for admission, select the program that fits one’s career goals and what services are available to Moraine Park students.
