Dustin Pagel of Neenah, a fourth-year Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Carpentry Apprenticeship student at Moraine Park Technical College, earned a third-place bronze medal in the carpentry competition at the 2010 ABC National Craft Championships held in San Diego, Calif., in February.
Pagel, who is employed by Radtke Contractors in Winneconne, earned a berth at the national competition when he placed first in the ABC of Wisconsin Inc. State Skill Competition in December.
"Competing in the National Craft Championships was an extremely exciting experience," said Pagel. "To take third place is an accomplishment I am extremely proud of."
More than 100 top apprentices and craft trainees throughout the country competed in 11 different trades at the national championships. The carpentry competition consisted of a three-hour written exam and a six-hour practical exam judged by construction craft professionals. The practical portion of the competition included building a structure using both metal and wood according to a blueprint.
Moraine Park carpentry instructor Gary Roehrig said, “Dustin has been one of the best apprentices in the program and his success is a tribute to his commitment to furthering his education and professional development.”
