Community members are invited to share an enriching experience when Moraine Park Technical College celebrates Multicultural Day on Wednesday, April 14.
Sponsored by the Multicultural Club, Student Senate, Diversity Relations and Human Resources Systems at Moraine Park, this free event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Cyber Center cafeteria on the Fond du Lac campus.
Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a parade of international attire, followed from 11:15 to 11:30 a.m. by a fashion show of garments from various cultural backgrounds.
From 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. the Wisconsin Dells Singers will sing in the Ho Chunk language to the beat of a dance drum. They will also talk about the songs, drum, and traditional clothing that are part of their performance.
From 12:30 to 1 p.m. Moraine Park students will represent their cultural heritage through a Philippine song selection, hip-hop salsa and Ghanaian dance routines, and a multicultural presentation.
Several booths will display cultural artifacts throughout the event, including items from Mexico, Ghana, South Africa, Poland, the UK, Columbia, the Philippines, Jamaica, Japan, China, the Hmong culture, Cuba and Germany.
A global buffet will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering jerk chicken with steamed cabbage, meatless ravioli, egg rolls, Greek donuts, and Native American wild rice soup. Prices are $2 for students, $3 for staff and $5 for the general public.
