Adopting a famous quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson – “What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are small matters compared to what lies within us” – as their motto, the nearly 1,150 Class of 2010 graduate candidates from Moraine Park Technical College’s Beaver Dam, Fond du Lac and West Bend campuses will soon head out on new adventures.
Moraine Park President Gayle Hytrek will preside over the College’s commencement ceremony on Saturday,
May 22, at 10 a.m. in the Field House at Fond du Lac High School.
Each spring semester, a committee of students, staff and faculty select Moraine Park's Student of the Year Award recipient. This year’s winner, Amy Goebel of Fond du Lac, who is enrolled in the Marketing program, will address the graduating class during commencement.
A special award will be presented to Moraine Park’s 2010 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year: Barbara Brown, a 1981 graduate of the LPN program and a 1993 graduate of the Nursing – Associate Degree program. Brown is a nursing instructor with the College.
Associate of applied science degrees, technical diplomas and certificates will be presented by Moraine Park District Board members Philip Baranowski, treasurer, and Vernon Jung Jr., secretary.
The graduation processional will be led by bagpiper Gina Crossley, with the ceremonial music performed by Brassination, a brass quintet from the Fond du Lac area. Shady Grove, also from the Fond du Lac area, will provide the pre-ceremonial music. A reception immediately following the ceremony will be held at the high school.
Beta Mu Kappa, Moraine Park's Phi Theta Kappa chapter, is sponsoring a food drive at the commencement. Drop off nonperishable food items from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the table staffed by local chapter members near the entrance of the high school. All donations will benefit local food pantries.
