Moraine Park Technical College held its General Educational Development (GED) and High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 17, at the Fond du Lac campus.
The ceremony recognizes the accomplishments of GED/HSED graduates. “To earn one’s GED, a candidate must demonstrate a level of skill that meets or exceeds that demonstrated by 60 percent of graduating high school seniors,” said Sandra Huenink, Moraine Park dean of basic education. More than 300 students completed the GED/HSED program at Moraine Park during the past year.
The Friend of Basic Education Award was presented to Rep. John Townsend for his work in advocating for education. He has given the congratulatory address to Moraine Park’s graduates at the GED/HSED ceremony for the past few years. Among the many committees and boards on which he has served during his terms are the Committee on Colleges and Universities and the Committee on Education in the Wisconsin Assembly, and the boards of Fond du Lac Adult Literacy Services and Wisconsin Literacy Inc.
“It's an honor to support students who have persevered to achieve educational gains and improve their financial status,” said Rep. Townsend. “I'm happy to join friends and family in congratulating the many hard-working graduates for improving their education and economic opportunity by completing their course of study.”
