Upward Bound’s third year at Moraine Park Technical College wrapped up with a closing ceremony and student awards presentation at Marian University’s Stayer Center on July 22.
The main Student of the Year Award for the entire program went to Chelsey Schoenberger, a junior at Beaver Dam High School this fall. In addition, Student of the Year awards were given to a student from each high school that participates in Upward Bound: Deb Borck, a senior at Beaver Dam High School; Matt Lapre, a junior at Fond du Lac High School; and Sabrina Hathaway, a sophomore at Ripon High School.
A federal TRIO program of the U.S. Department of Education, Upward Bound is provided free by Moraine Park to Fond du Lac, Ripon and Beaver Dam high schools. This pre-college program prepares first-generation college-bound students for the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree after high school. During the school year, Upward Bound participants learn about study skills, time management, scholarships and college selection. The Summer Session consists of college-prep classes taught by high school teachers at Moraine Park’s Fond du Lac campus, with the last week spent at Marian University taking classes and staying in a dorm.
