Moraine Park Technical College will host their West Bend campus Fall Harvest Open House on Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Moraine Park invites students, faculty, staff and community members to experience the West Bend campus in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.
Moraine Park’s West Bend campus contains some of the latest teaching technology within its 132,000 square feet, including a brand new state-of-the art nursing lab that provides real-life medical experiences to students.
During the fall harvest event, visitors can take a tour of the new simulation center and meet the new members of the lab — five patient simulators. The human simulators have pulses, heart and breathing sounds. Some even talk, sweat and deliver a baby. Open house attendees can also receive free blood pressure screenings.
“Anyone looking to train for their first career or retrain for a new career should check out the new nursing area and technologies at the West Bend open house,” said Pete Rettler, West Bend campus and community coordinator.
Another element of the tour is a demonstration of Moraine Park’s new interactive video conferencing technology. TelePresence is the latest technology available to deliver classes or meetings at a distance.
“Telepresence allows users a face-to-face experience at a distance. It enables them to feel like they are in the same room even though they are at a different campus — a dramatic enhancement to distance learning,” said Rettler.
Storytelling for all ages will be held in the expanded and remodeled library.
The new student life area will be open with refreshments from the Campus Café and music by Shady Grove. Activities for children will be available including bean bag toss, temporary tattoos, a coloring contest and Wii basketball contest. Door prize drawings will be held every 30 minutes. The Bookstore will be open to purchase MPTC logo wear.
