Community members are invited to share an enriching experience when Moraine Park Technical College celebrates Multicultural Day on Wednesday, April 13.
Sponsored by the Multicultural Club, Student Senate, Diversity Relations and Human Resources Systems at Moraine Park, this free event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Cyber Center cafeteria on Moraine Park’s Fond du Lac campus.
Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a parade of international attire, followed by a fashion show of garments from various cultural backgrounds from 11:15 to 11:30 a.m.
From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Capoiera Batuque will demonstrate the Brazilian art of Capoiera through song and dance to the rhythm of the berimbaua (single-stringed instrument) and the beat of the batuque (drum). They will also talk about the history, dress and instruments that are a part of their performance.
From 12:30 to 1 p.m. Moraine Park students will represent their cultural heritage through a Philippine song selection, hip-hop salsa and Ghanaian dance routines, and a multicultural presentation.
Several booths will display cultural artifacts throughout the event, including items from Mexico, Ghana, South Africa, Poland, the UK, Columbia, the Philippines, Jamaica, Japan, China, the Hmong culture, Cuba, Brazil and Germany.
A global buffet will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring food from around the world. Prices are $2 for students, $3 for staff and $5 for the general public.
