When Diane Sexton enrolled in the Accounting program at Moraine Park Technical College, she had in mind the idea of lifelong learning. A solid associate of applied science foundation at Moraine Park, combined with an easy transition to Ottawa University, allowed Sexton to continue learning. She eventually obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration and a master’s degree in business administration, also from Ottawa.
It is Sexton’s story that inspired the recently signed articulation agreement between Moraine Park and Ottawa University. The University has locations in Phoenix, Chandler and Surprise, Ariz; Jefferson, Indiana; Overland Park, Kansas; and Brookfield and Oak Creek, Wis. Programs are also offered online.
Students who complete their associate of applied science degree through Moraine Park can now apply up to 80 credits toward an Ottawa University bachelor’s degree. Online and face-to-face programs are available to students in areas including business administration, health care management and accounting.
Ottawa offers eight-week courses, with one course per week (classroom or online). The University prides itself on offering a high-quality private, not-for-profit education in an adult-focused environment.
“The transition from Moraine Park to Ottawa University was extremely easy,” said Sexton. “My instructors at Moraine Park provided me with a very strong education in accounting, which set me up for success at Ottawa. Moraine Park got me back into the swing of going to school, and Ottawa allowed me to continue learning by accepting all of my credits from Moraine Park, allowing me to achieve my bachelor’s degree quickly.”
Sexton said that Ottawa continued the quality of education Moraine Park had provided, allowing networking opportunities, real-life application in business and best practices in her areas of study. “Both Moraine Park and Ottawa classrooms provided me with things that I could apply right away to my work and life,” she added.
“We are very proud of the partnership Moraine Park now shares with Ottawa University,” said Dr. Gayle Hytrek, Moraine Park president. “The easy transition and excellent educational options Ottawa University provides makes it convenient for our students to continue their education and pursue lifelong learning after Moraine Park.”
“Ottawa University is pleased and excited about our new transfer agreement with Moraine Park Technical College. This collaboration provides students with a dynamic educational pathway that links strong, cutting-edge technical education with a professional and liberal arts education that Ottawa University has been providing for 146 years,” said Dr. Wade Mauland, Ottawa University-Wisconsin campus executive. “This synthesis of technical understanding combined with the applied critical-thinking, communication and advanced problem-solving skills gained at Ottawa University will appropriately prepare students for the ever-changing, dynamic and global workplace of today.”
