Moraine Park honors students with annual awards banquet

     The hard work and academic achievement of many students at Moraine Park Technical College were recognized during the College’s annual Student Awards Banquet held recently at The Golf Club at Camelot in Lomira.
     The Wisconsin Technical College System District Student Ambassador Award was presented to Lee McClendon of Fond du Lac, who is enrolled in the Culinary Arts program. He will assume this role with the start of the 2012-13 academic year, taking over for 2011-12 Student Ambassador Kristina White. 
     Moraine Park presented its seventh Student of the Year Award to Ryan Yonke of Berlin, from the Electrical Power Distribution program. Nominees must be graduating, exemplify the College’s core abilities and also excel in classroom and community involvement. The winner is selected by a committee of students, support staff, faculty and administration members. 
     Technical Achievement Awards were presented to six students. To receive this award, recipients must be enrolled in a one-year technical diploma program and have maintained a 3.25 GPA. They are judged on classroom participation and other contributions and characteristics that exemplify an outstanding student. Recipients were Austin Fischer of Rosendale, Steve Hartman of Tomah, Michael Hocker of Beaver Dam, Judy Moore of Malone, Ryan Yonke of Berlin, and Thomas Schultz of Plymouth.
     The Meritorious Service Award is granted to students who have served the College through their leadership and participation in co-curricular activities such as student clubs, student government or other volunteer opportunities.      Twenty-four Moraine Park students received the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges award. Who's Who Among Students is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs in the nation. Students receive national recognition for achieving at least a 3.5 GPA as well as participating and showing leadership in academic and extracurricular activities. Those students include: Mueller Hannelore and Trevino Priscilla of Beaver Dam; Patricia Ninmann of Burnett; Sherry Fields of Eden; Jamie Harmsen of Fairwater; Bruce Fernandez, Kerry Grunkowski, Rae Nell Halbur, Heather Morris and Kristina White of Fond du Lac; Austin Barten of Mayville; May Montezon and Stacey Babler of North Fond du Lac; Wendy Pongratz of Oshkosh; Rebecca Stauber, Johanna Voelker and Devon Voss of Plymouth; Katie Kraus of Saint Cloud; Shawn Donald of Sheboygan; Kayleigh Schmid of Stoughton; Casey Johnston of Waupun; Beth Holbrook, Jacqueline Wene and Lori Yochem of West Bend.
     Student government leadership recognition included Robyn Coleman, Beaver Dam Student Senate President; Shannon Lee, Fond du Lac Student Senate President; Elizabeth Kuble, West Bend Student Senate President; Robyn Coleman, District Student Government President; William Milbrot, Wisconsin Student Government Lt. Governor; John Lippold, Wisconsin Student Government Governor.
     Also recognized at the banquet were the 50 students who were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society in April; 13 students who received scholarships from the Moraine Park Association of Career and Technical Education and the Moraine Park Federation of Teachers; 23 students who served as peer tutors/notetakers for their fellow students; and 17 students who participated in international education.
