G.I. Jobs recently released their 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools, recognizing the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students. Moraine Park Technical College made the list for the third consecutive year for its excellence in serving veterans as students. The complete list can be viewed by visiting
“Moraine Park is honored to be included on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools,” said Sheila Ruhland, Moraine Park president. “We are grateful for the dynamic and diverse background military students provide in the classroom and throughout the College. Moraine Park is proud to work with such exceptional students who serve our country and community.”
Moraine Park held its first-ever Student Veterans Association (SVA) Callout meeting in September for military students and veterans to learn about the educational opportunities offered at Moraine Park. Those who attended could ask questions and meet with other military students and veterans. Moraine Park’s new SVA will provide a support system for military students and veterans with making a smooth transition from military life to college and careers.
“As a veteran who is still serving in the Air National Guard, I understand the specific needs of our Veterans who are being reintegrated into civilian life,” said Scott Lieburn, Moraine Park dean of students. “Having a strong network of other student veterans, like the SVA, and a college staff who are supportive can go a long way in helping them achieve their educational goals.”
Schools on the list range from state universities and private colleges to community and technical colleges and trade schools. The common bond is their shared priority of recruiting students with military experience. Schools on the Military Friendly Schools list also offer additional benefits to student veterans such as on-campus veterans programs, credit for service and military spouse programs.
Criteria for making the Military Friendly Schools list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students, and academic accreditations. For more information on Moraine Park, visit
