Vital Signs, Urine Testing, and 8th Graders, Oh My!

Last Friday, Moraine Park Technical College hosted over 450 Middle School students from Badger Middle School in West Bend.

ma-photo-1The students participated in a Career Awareness Day in cooperation with the Junior Achievement program.  As part of their day, the students participated in numerous hands on activities including exposure to careers in healthcare, business, HVAC, Electricity, and Manufacturing.

The student’s also learned more about the various career preparation programs offered by Moraine Park.  In the Medical Assistant classroom, instructor Eric Ziebell and his students had three stations for the middle schooler’s  to explore: taking height and weight measurements, various ways to take temperatures, and testing fake urine samples. When asking a student if he was thinking about a healthcare career, the student replied, “I wasn’t, until today!”
