For the past eight years, Electricity Instructor Mark Wamsley, of West Bend, has had the same goal in mind at the beginning of every academic year, “to help each student that walks through the door in August walk out in May with their head held high and with more confidence to go out and start a career that not only makes them a good living, but also makes them excited to go to work and provide a service for others.” Continue reading

Ain’t that Re-Grand?!

female student looks at clothing in mptc bookstore

The Grand Re-Opening of our Fond du Lac campus bookstore took place Thursday, Sept. 29. The bookstore underwent a dynamic remodel throughout the summer – increasing the size of the retail space, while giving our students access to a greater selection of supplies, books and college apparel! The remodel also updated the look to match our current décor.

Attendees of the Grand Re-Opening got a first-hand look at these major changes, while also getting to relax, play games and participate in contests for prizes. Cake and refreshments were also available. Here’s a few photos from the event, as well as a look at the bookstore under construction in summer!  Continue reading

Renae’s Story: Cancer comes. Positivity prevails.

She didn’t know when. But deep within her soul, she knew it was coming. Some day.  Some day …

Some day.

Her mother. Her grandmother. Her aunt. Her uncle. All passed away from cancer.

So for Renae O’Laughlin – a sweet 60-year-old housekeeper here at Moraine Park Technical College with a vibrant, positive spirit – getting a diagnosis of cancer seemed inevitable.

“I’ve had so many family members die from cancer, so it wasn’t a matter of ‘If I’ll get cancer.’ I’ve just always had the mindset that I was going to get cancer – that it was just a matter of time,” Renae said.

Unfortunately, she was right. Continue reading

The “Outstanding” Emily Hayes

Moraine Park Instructor Emily Hayes teaching students notes on white board

Emily Hayes of Fond du Lac has been a full-time instructor for only two years at Moraine Park but has already made a huge impact on the students she teaches. In fact, she recently won the Outstanding New Instructor award from the Wisconsin Association for Career and Technical Education.

“So many of our students at MPTC are struggling to overcome obstacles in order to better their own lives and the lives of those they love and care for,” Emily said. “I really enjoy forming relationships with those students and encouraging their confidence and growth over the course of the semester, or more if I’m lucky and they take more than one class with me! Being a positive part of their stories and successes is definitely the best part of my job.” Continue reading
