My name is Alex Prunty, Moraine Park Technical College Alumni, and owner/ driver of the #11 Super Late Model, sponsored by Moraine Park Technical College.

I’ve won the 2015 Slinger Speedway Late Model Track Championship and 2015 Dells Raceway Park Super Late Model Rookie of the Year award and Dash Series Championship and I’m hoping for many more successful achievements in the future.

The scene told many stories as roughly 350 Moraine Park Technical College students walked up to the commencement stage on Saturday, May 21, soaked in the moment, and one-by-one wrapped their hands around a diploma – their diploma.

Relief. Pride. Validation. Fulfillment. Gratitude. Pure, unbridled joy.  These emotions and more were readily on display at Moraine Park’s 2016 Commencement Ceremony in the Fond du Lac High School Field House. But amidst an eclectic mix of smiles and tears – whether seen on the faces of those on stage or from proud family members watching on – there was one unifying truth to connect all these journeys. Slowly, serenely and quietly. The hour hand spun  around the clock three times. Meanwhile, with frantic precision and loud jolts of noise, the hands of creative high school students transformed piles of scrap metal into works of art at Moraine Park Technical College’s 13^th annual Junkyard Challenge on May 12.

Sixteen students from Fond du Lac, Lomira, Mayville and Slinger high schools came to the College’s Fond du Lac campus for the event, where they had just three hours to turn random scraps of metal and structural material into elaborate welded creations – and did they ever. Continue reading

On May 10^th, the Moraine Park’s Process Engineering Technology and Mechanical Design programs hosted the Distance Challenge.  The Distance Challenge is a competition where high school students build a device of 30 lbs or less to hurl or throw a rubber ball.  Four schools entered teams this year, Mayville High School, North Fond du Lac High School, Elkhart Lake – Glenbeulah High School, and GPS Education Partners, a charter school in Jackson. There were six total entrants, four in the “Slingshot” division, and two in the “Other” division, both being Catapults. Continue reading

On Wednesday, May 11^th, the Integrated Manufacturing Students at Moraine Park Technical College held the championship match of their Techbots Competition.  In the championship match, Flippin Awesome proved to be nearly indestructible against the dangerous Chips Miller.

If you’re envious of artistic talent and creativity, then walking around Moraine Park’s West Bend campus on Wednesday night would have been a difficult adventure for you, for sure.

Graduating students from Moraine Park Technical College’s programs showcased their talents at the College’s Portfolio Showcase.

Moraine Park’s Integrated Manufacturing Classes are required of students in the Mechanical Design, Process Engineering Technology, and Mechatronics programs.  Students in these programs take the course together and work in cross-functional teams to complete a project.  This year’s project was a Techbot competition.  Four teams in the evening class and four teams in the day class built remote-controlled robots to compete against each other by battling in an 8ft x 12ft cage.  Each team designed and built their Techbot from scratch.  Limitations included a $250 budget and a 15-pound weight limit.

Preliminary rounds were on Wednesday, May 4 for the evening class, and Friday, May 6 for the morning class.

Champions of both classes were crowned, and now the final battle for supremacy between these two Techbot champions will take place this Wednesday night (May 11) for ultimate bragging rights.

The cafeteria menu at Moraine Park will have a bit of a new look coming up in summer. This summer the culinary arts department will be aiming to serve up some great tasting food that is good for your body. The food will be just as delicious as always but with an aim towards health.

The salad bar and breakfast/yogurt bar will be available and stocked with yummy choices. Desserts will be offered, but with a bit healthier approach to them. Continue reading
