Throughout history, mankind has stumbled on many important discoveries: electricity, gravity, penicillin, new continents, new galaxies, the ability to combine forks and spoons into one handy tool (all hail, the spork!), to name a few.

Admittedly, we may not be able to compare to some of those amazing discoveries, but we did host an awesome event this past week: one that centered around helping people discover what we offer, and how we can help people find successful, satisfying careers.  Continue reading

THROWBACK: Endless winter

Vintage black & white photo of Moraine Park students playing broom hockey

Six more weeks of winter?! Release the groans!

Or … not.

As Anton Chekhov, a Russian author in the 1800s, once penned: “People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer when they’re happy.”

In that spirit, here’s a look at some of our students back in 1972 embracing the timeless joys of winter.  Continue reading

Hired Before Graduation: Hockey, parenthood, turtles and big dreams!

Seven Straight: Moraine Park celebrates another military honor

Moraine Park Dean of Students Scott Lieburn shaking hands with Sue Wiese at military honor event

There’s repeats and “three-peats.”

But what do you call seven-in-a-row of something?

Show of hands? … Anyone?

Perhaps a “heptad” – a group or series of seven items (or how about other equally poetic suggestions – we’re looking at you “septet” and “hebdomad”)?

But for simplicity sake, how about we just call our recent seventh-in-a-row honor very special – because it is!? Continue reading

It’s mid-January. Our new semester hasn’t started. Probably quiet around here, right?

Not quite!  Continue reading

Run, run Rettler! New Year’s Resolution streak reaches 23rd year!

Moraine Park Pete Rettler jogging

Like many others at the onset of a new year, Pete Rettler looked in the mirror in late 1993 vowing to make a healthy change.

He was in college at the time hoping to lose weight, and he and a friend ultimately made a bet: They both vowed to go for a run outdoors every single day of the 1994. No matter what.

And they did. Day after day. Rain. Sunshine. Snow. Anything. Everything.

Though both men completed this healthy New Year’s challenge, it turns out that stretch of 365 days was only the beginning for Pete.
