English Language Learner classes take ‘Marshmallow Challenge’

This week, students in our English Language Learner (ELL) class enjoyed coupling language learning with team-building skills through “The Marshmallow Challenge.”  Modified from an activity discussed in Mark Wujec’s TED talk, the students were tasked with working together in teams to build the tallest structure in a limited amount of time, from a limited set of materials.

They did a wonderful job creating some very unique free-standing structures!

Our ELL classes at Moraine Park Technical College serve beginning-level through advanced-level students from all over the world.  We offer classes for each level in the mornings and evenings on all three campuses. Students work to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, as well as discover opportunities out in the community.

In this class alone, there are four countries and three different languages represented!
