Did you ever say to yourself, “Wow what a small world it is!”? Did you ever wonder what the power of partnerships and collaboration could do? That was never more evident than with this very special thank you note and beautiful photos all the way from Kathmandu, Nepal to Fond du Lac, WI that arrived just after Christmas Break. “Start now and be in a new career by Christmas.” That was a goal and a promise made by Moraine Park Technical College Boot Camp students in September.
On December 8 the Fall 2017 Manufacturing Skills Academies completers came together with friends, family and employers to celebrate their accomplishments. Through an acceptance process that began in the summer, classes that meet every day starting in September, and an internship that ran throughout the camp – culminating with 9 consecutive days on the job.
The College uses grant funds to provide specific training necessary for students to secure job opportunities at partnering businesses. The grants make the program free for students, as well as providing a cost-of-living stipend and a 144-hour internship making $12/hour.
For an up-close chance to learn more about boot camps, Moraine Park is hosting a CNC Machining and Welding Test Drive event Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, including a resume review workshop, a free networking lunch with internship employers, and a hands-on opportunity to make something in the lab with our instructors and take it home with you!
Space is limited for the Test Drive workshops, and pre-registration is required. Deadline to register for the January workshops is January 17, 2018.
For more details on the Test Drive or boot camps, visit morainepark.edu/bootcamp, or call Todd Hayes at 920-924-3334.
So instead of struggling with unemployment, underemployment or temporary work, find out if attending a Welding or CNC Boot Camp is a good fit.

Like many others at the onset of a new year, Pete Rettler looked in the mirror in late 1993 vowing to make a healthy change.
He was hoping to lose weight, and he and a friend ultimately made a bet: They both vowed to go for a run outdoors every single day of the 1994. No matter what.
And they did. Day after day. Rain. Sunshine. Snow. Anything. Everything.
Though both men completed this healthy New Year’s challenge, it turns out that stretch of 365 days was only the beginning for Pete.
This holiday season, several area organizations dedicated to helping breast cancer patients and survivors will have more ways to help thanks to a special event hosted by Moraine Park Technical College each year.
Moraine Park donated $10,000 on Dec. 8 to four different cancer-related groups sharing close ties to the communities the College serves. The donations stem from money raised by Moraine Park’s fourth annual “Great Pink Pumpkin” 5K Run/Walk, held Oct. 21. Continue reading
Who should get tutoring? Isn’t it just for people who are doing poorly in their courses?
Anyone can benefit from tutoring! Tutoring can help maintain or improve a grade as well as make the difference between passing and failing a course. It can help students ease anxiety about difficult courses, deepen understanding and retention of course content, and help develop more effective study skills.
How can a tutor help me?
Your tutor will work with you to help understand where you are having difficulty. A tutor can help you gain new perspectives on your learning by asking questions, explaining concepts in different ways, sharing examples and resources, suggesting study strategies, providing encouragement, and more. 1. Could you share your “story” how did you end up at Moraine Park?
I was a stay at home mom and when my kids went back to school I didn’t want to just work at a job I hated. So, I went back to school. I had a few different program changes and then I found the Health and Wellness program.
Eat a grape and make a wish! Have a competition of nativities. Wear yellow pants to ensure good finances in the coming year! These are just a few of the cultural traditions Moraine Park’s English Language students shared during our end of the semester holiday-themed classes. We kicked off the holiday conversation with a trip to Regner Park’s “Enchantment in the Park” lights display where the students learned about the United States’ holiday traditions including Christmas lights, Santa Claus, carolers and hot cocoa. Moraine Park Technical College is committed to and proud of our veteran and military students. For eight straight years, Moraine Park has made Victory Media’s list of Military Friendly Schools for its commitment in serving veterans as students—with benefits for student veterans such as on-campus veterans programs, credit for service, and military spouse programs.
To continue our close work with military students and their families, Moraine Park is excited to partner with the Community College of these Air Force (CCAF) to offer the General Education Mobile (GEM) Program.
