In this newspaper clipping from 1971, law enforcement officers “made their moves” during a one-day firearms school at Eldorado Marsh shooting range. The class was sponsored by Moraine Park Technical College and the Fond du Lac County Traffic Police Department. Around 40 law enforcement officers from around the state were in attendance.
Moraine Park Technical College students and staff enjoyed end-of-the-year celebrations at its West Bend, Fond du Lac and Beaver Dam campuses this week. “Last Blast 2016” featured free lunch, games, giveaways and more. Also, entertainment was provided by comedian Louis Ramey.
Here’s a visual look back at Last Blast in Fond du Lac on Wednesday, April 27, which had a Hawaiian luau theme.
If you take great interest in new technologies, I would encourage you to explore the IT-Tech Support program at MPTC. I am one of the instructors, and try to teach our students about new technology as early as possible. This helps them stay ahead of the game and be more prepared when they graduate. It also helps me as an IT instructor stay current.
One of the new devices I’ve incorporated into my classroom, and my home, is the Amazon Echo. This wonderful little device has had a huge impact in both my classes and the way we do things at home.
Moraine Park Technical College’s Corrections Club hosted the Milwaukee House of Correction K-9 Unit on Monday.
Narcotic and cell phone demonstrations by German Shepherds and Labradors were given, and the presentation gave attendees a look at the highly skilled K-9 operations used in the criminal justice field.
The fear of math is something many of us have experienced more than once in our lifetimes, but for Moraine Park Technical College student Nichole Cochenet of West Bend, that fear was eased thanks to her Moraine Park tutor.
“I gained a better understanding of math and confidence in the classroom, and some of my fear of math disappeared,” said Cochenet. “I also gained a friend.”
The one-on-one peer tutoring services offered at Moraine Park have benefited numerous students throughout the years but is still a valuable College resource often overlooked by students, according to Michelle Duran, tutoring services specialist at the College.

One of the most pressing needs for businesses in Wisconsin, as well as the nation, is for workers to have basic to advanced levels of information technology (IT) skills regardless of career sector. The Department of Labor notes that “In today’s global economy, advancement in technology applications extends across multiple industries, creating the demand for transferable, basic IT skills and competencies among new hires and incumbent workers at almost all levels of employment.”
It’s safe to assume you’re reading this on some sort of modern computer, or tablet or phone. Something that can probably do everything short of buttering your toast in the morning (but maybe there’s an app for that, too?!). Alas, the device you’re currently staring at can send Tweets and emails. It surfs the ever-rolling waves of the worldwide web. It can play Candy Crush. You know, important stuff.
