Through Moraine Park Fair Trade College education efforts, IT and Corrections Club students are helping youth “Stay out of Traffic.” The anti-trafficking initiative began this past October when over 130 participants gathered at our Fond du Lac campus for “Make Fond du Lac a Traffic Free Zone.” This event was designed to bring awareness to the crime of trafficking in people for sex or labor globally, nationally, statewide and locally. The weather is getting nicer (even in Wisconsin!) and there are more bikes on the road. Motorists are asked to stay alert for bikes, but motorcyclists need to remember they are harder to see and ride accordingly. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) reminds riders that motorcycle safety starts with 5 = zero – 5 key points equals zero deaths on Wisconsin roadways.

Several months ago, eight faculty including myself, were selected to take part in the inaugural MPTC Teaching Fellows Program. Our mentor for the program is Dean of General Studies, Dr. Jennifer Lanter. During the program, faculty shared teaching experiences, gained knowledge related to learner-centered teaching approaches, discussed innovative teaching practices in a collaborative environment, and explored new teaching strategies. Our academic year is winding down quickly! I am sure that the students graduating in May feel like the semester flew by! This year, as in past years, the prospective graduates attended the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) Wisconsin annual convention April 3 – 5. This event allows students to network with others in the profession, meet with recruiters, learn about trends in laboratory medicine and compete in the student bowl. As an Medical Lab Technician (MLT), they will work in a field that studies body fluids to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment. Continue reading
