Moraine Park gas utility project receives major boost

Alliant Energy donating $80,000 check to Moraine Park for Gas Utility project

Demand for gas utility technicians is growing much faster in recent years than the supply of skilled workers, and Moraine Park Technical College – with generous help from Alliant Energy – is seeking to provide a state-of-the-art solution.

Moraine Park is developing a new Gas Utility Technician program at the College’s Beaver Dam campus, along with a cutting-edge, $2.3 million dollar Energy Education Center.

Alliant Energy has become a key contributor to this project, recently donating $80,000. Continue reading

A Student’s Story: The Future Re-Focused

Matthew Stegall lacked focus and risked not graduating from high school. Fortunately, he successfully earned his high school diploma through an alternative program in which students combined four hours of GED test prep with part-time employment. The following years were relatively productive, but the path was unclear. He worked and took classes at another institution, but he had not found his niche.

Electrical grad: “My instructors showed a true passion to teach”

Devin Kissinger likes to fish, woodwork, do home improvement projects and … win national championships, too.  He did the latter in Industrial Motor Control at the SkillsUSA national competition held June 23-24 in Louisville, Ky.

That was a culminating accomplishment after years of hard work for Devin.

Along this journey, Devin honed his skills at Moraine Park in my classroom, and I recently caught up with him to get his thoughts on his time here at Moraine Park, and to see if he had advice for anyone else considering a career in electricity. Continue reading

Is the Super Bowl one of the biggest events for Human Trafficking?

The Moraine Park Fair Trade College team hosted a “Be AWARE!  Help Stop Human Trafficking” event at all three campuses on Tuesday, January 31.  This event featured the short video 5 Shocking Truths about Human Trafficking in America, along with educational information, delicious Fair Trade chocolate chip cookies baked by Tom Endejan and culinary students, and trafficking awareness mini footballs.

It was a timely look at this issue, as Super Bowl weekend is thought to be one of the biggest periods of human trafficking in our country. Continue reading
