Wrestlers. Presidential candidates. Sausage. Behold, the Ultimate Deans List

What do a sausage company entrepreneur, crooning singer, professional wrestler, legendary basketball coach and the “Mayhem Guy” from Allstate Insurance commercials have in common?

They’re all people who’ve made our Ultimate Deans List.

Yes, to celebrate the release of the most recent Moraine Park Technical College Dean’s List, we’ve compiled another special list of Deans just for fun. So, without further ado (that was just the perfect amount of ado, though, wasn’t it?) here’s a list of famous people with the first or last name Dean:

  1. Dean Martin. Arguably the quintessential Dean. Nicknamed the “King of Cool.” He was an American singer (crooning out hits like “You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You” and “That’s Amore”) as well as an actor, comedian and film producer throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
  2. Dean Ambrose. Current professional wrestler, known also as “The Lunatic Fringe.” Wouldn’t want to mess with that guy, right? Makes it ironic, however, that his given name is actually Jonathan Good, which doesn’t sound near as intimidating. Just don’t tell him we said so.
  3. Howard Dean. Yeahhhh! Former Governor of Vermont. During an unsuccessful run for President in 2004, a media gaffe where he loudly yelled “Yeah!” in an unusual, cracked tone at the conclusion of a campaign speech has become enduring fodder for parodies and memes.
  4. Dean SmithWas a legendary men’s basketball head coach for the University of North Carolina. During his staggering 36-year career on the sidelines of Chapel Hill, Smith earned 879 victories – the record in NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball at the time of his retirement – and two national championships.
  5. Dean Norris. American actor best known for his role in the AMC drama Breaking Bad. Norris played the part of wise-cracking DEA agent Hank Schrader, brother-in-law of criminal mastermind Walter White.
  6. Jimmy Dean. A country music star and actor in the 1960s. Enough right there to be famous, for sure. But his creation of the Jimmy Dean Sausage Company in 1969 with his brother is perhaps his most enduring cultural impact.
  7. James Dean. American actor and cultural icon of teenage disillusionment in the 1950s. He died in a car accident at the age of 24, and is remembered most for his leading role in Rebel Without a Cause.  He became the first actor ever to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
  8. Dean Winters.  Another actor on the list. He is known for his role as Ryan O’Reily on the HBO prison drama Oz. In broader pop culture, though, many know him now for flipping over cars and causing destruction as the “Mayhem Guy” in Allstate Insurance commercials.

So there you have it! An amazing collection of Deans, indeed.

Did we miss any?!? Let us know in the comments.

And, more important – much, much more important!- congratulations to all of our students that made the true Moraine Park Dean’s List. To qualify for the list, students had to earn a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average. To view our complete fall 2015 dean’s list, visit morainepark.edu/deanslist.
