Meet Christine: Our 2017-18 District Student Ambassador!

Moraine Park female District Student Ambassador Christine

Christine Gil is our Moraine Park’s 2017-18 District Student Ambassador!

The role of the Ambassador is to actively serve as a member of student government, advocate for Moraine Park and the Wisconsin Technical College System as a whole, assist with College activities and events and represent the student body within the community.

All that said, you may have two burning questions remaining: The first being “What is the meaning of life?” And the second being “Who exactly is Christine Gil and why is she a perfect fit for Student Ambassador?”

Both good questions, for sure. We’ll work on the first one and get back to you. In the meantime, here are answers to the second quandary, in Christine’s own words:

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I was born in raised in Warner Robins, Georgia. Many people often wonder how I ended up in Wisconsin. I left Georgia when I took a job working as a flight attendant for a regional airline in 2012. I got to experience living in Honolulu, Hawaii and Chicago. When I met my husband back in 2014 we decided to get married and live in Wisconsin, since he has a job here. I have one daughter that will be turning 3 this year and another daughter that is due in early September. Most of my time consists of spending time with my family or focusing on things that I have to do for school. I am in the Student Senate and Human Resources Club at Moraine Park.

Why Moraine Park?

I chose Moraine Park mainly because it was the closest college to my home, but I also like the fact that at a technical college I can earn a degree in two years or less. As I learned more about Moraine Park, I knew that I made the best possible decision.

I attended a community college when I lived in Georgia and it was completely different to my experience here. Moraine Park has a very active sense of student life on campus. There are always activities to participate in campus throughout the week. I enjoy Student Senate and I’ve had the opportunity to meet other students in different programs that I would of never met otherwise.

I am also a part of Human Resources Club. This club has helped me to connect with students that are on the Fond du Lac campus that are in the same program as me. It also helps me academically because I learn more about issues or news that pertains to HR. I often learn information that helps me with assignments. I’ve also been very fortunate to have excellent instructors throughout my experience. They all have been very patient and helpful.

What program are you in, and what reasons were behind that choice?

My program is Human Resources. I have always been very business minded and I enjoy learning about business strategies and the laws involved in HR.

What are your career goals?

I am working hard so I can graduate in Spring 2018. After graduation I plan to find a job in HR. I would like to further my education and earn a Bachelors degree. I also want to become SHRM certified.

What are your thoughts on becoming our next Student Ambassador?

I am very excited to be the student ambassador for Moraine Park and am looking forward to the different opportunities and experiences it will bring in the 2017-2018 school year.
