Faculty Spotlight: Sarah Chojnacki, Medical Assistant Instructor
My name is Sarah Chojnacki and I teach medical assisting and medical office courses at Moraine Park. I have been with Moraine Park since August 2016 but have previously taught medical assisting courses for three years at a private college in Central Wisconsin. I have also previously taught CPR courses and coached high school softball.
I currently live in Stevens Point with my husband, our two young children, and our French Bulldog. I am originally from a very small town in far northeastern Wisconsin near the UP of Michigan. Outside of teaching, when I’m not caring for my family, I enjoy reading, gardening, crocheting and polka dancing. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Biology from UWGB and a Technical Diploma in Medical Assisting from Nicolet Area Technical College.
Interestingly, medical assisting was not my original career choice. I wanted to enter the Nursing Program, but when I learned there was a waitlist I chose medical assisting because of quicker admittance. I don’t regret this choice as it has lead me to where I am today!
One of the things I enjoy most about being a medical assistant is working directly with patients. This one-on-one type of care allows me to establish a professional relationship with the patient and allows them to develop trust in me. It is very rewarding to be able to help a person, especially in their time of need.
In the academic setting, I greatly enjoy working with students to help them learn the skills and information necessary to be successful in their chosen area of the allied health care field. My most rewarding moments as an instructor have been teaching students how to give injections and seeing their facial expressions when they have been successful!
If you enjoy communicating directly with people, collaborating with healthcare professionals, interacting with individuals of all ages, caring for somebody who is ill, and instructing someone who wishes to improve their health, then you, like me, may be interested in a career as a medical assistant!
