GIVE BACK: Support service members currently stationed overseas

As we approach and celebrate the holiday season, let us not forget about those who will be away from home serving their country. In order to make their time a little more enjoyable students and staff from Moraine Park’s Beaver Dam campus are conducting a “Christmas in a Shoebox” drive in order to collect items to be shipped to service members currently stationed overseas.

Partnering with Bright Futures from Beaver Dam and Support the Troops WI out of Hartford, they plan to collect enough items to fill 50 shoe boxes and have them in the hands of our servicemen and women by the holidays. This activity is also part of our College’s “Year of the Student Veteran.”

When to donate:

Collections started at the beginning of September and will continue until November 7th , throughout the Beaver Dam community and on all three Moraine Park campuses. Lisa Manual, Student Life Lead has also turned it into a friendly competition, offering a lunch party to the student group/club or class that brings in the most items (based on items per member).

Where to donate:

Donations can be dropped off at room K-323 on the Beaver Dam campus or with the Student Veteran Specialist on the West Bend & Fond du Lac campuses, Mon-Fri 9:00 – 4:00 pm.

What to donate:

Items donated should be new and no larger than shoe box-sized. Suggestions would be personal hygiene items like deodorant, eye drops, Q-tips, and baby wipes. Snacks consisting of beef jerky, sunflowers seeds, nuts, granola bars and flavored drink mixes as well as miscellaneous items like current magazines, batteries, paperbacks books and small travel games are great ways to let the service members know they’re remembered and helps bring a little joy around the holidays.

The packages will be assembled on November 9th on the Beaver Dam campus and students and staff will also have the opportunity to fill out note cards to send a personal message of encouragement, or holiday wishes.
