It’s #GivingTuesday! Help MPTC Students During COVID-19

givingtuesday
At a time when we are all experiencing the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, generosity can bring people of all backgrounds, faiths and political views together. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of those who are struggling and is a fundamental value anyone can act on.

This pandemic has had a significant financial impact on many individuals, including Moraine Park students. Programs are in place to help students supplement education-related costs associated with transitioning to online learning, but we are finding that students are still struggling to meet their day-to-day needs. Child care, layoffs and medical bills are just a few of the struggles that we know are currently affecting the ability to succeed in the digital classroom. The Moraine Park Foundation is working to help students with these needs through our Student Emergency Fund.

All student who have needs are eligible to apply for Student Emergency Fund monies through the Moraine Park Foundation. This one-time grant aims to help students during a time of financial need so they can remain in school and progress toward their desired certificate, diploma or degree.

In 2019, the Foundation awarded more than $8,000 in emergency assistance to 32 students. However, with the increased needs surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope to meet 100 percent of the requests for emergency assistance from students who are facing financial hardship. For this reason, we ask you to help support Moraine Park students. Please consider helping in one or both of the ways indicated below.

1) Please consider donating to the Student Emergency Fund. The Foundation hopes to help every student who presents a need, in some capacity. Information on how you can contribute to the Student Emergency Fund can be found at morainepark.edu/student-emergency.

2) Help us surround our 2020 graduates with support and congratulatory messages on social media. As you may know, Moraine Park made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 commencement ceremony. This is heartbreaking for many, and while a shout-out won’t bring back the missed celebration, it will help to keep their milestone accomplishments at the forefront- in a fun way! You can do this by either recognizing them on your own social media page on June 27 (the previously scheduled commencement day) or send a video of you/your organization wishing congratulations to the class of 2020 to featured on Moraine Park’s Facebook page on June 27.

Together we can support students through the Emergency Assistance Fund.
