Meet Maddie – Our District Student Ambassador!

Madison (Maddie) Johannes is our Moraine Park’s 2016-17 District Student Ambassador!

The role of the Ambassador is to actively serve as a member of student government, advocate for Moraine Park and the Wisconsin Technical College System as a whole, assist with College activities and events and represent the student body within the community.

All that said, you may have two burning questions remaining: The first being “What is the meaning of life?” And the second being “Who exactly is Maddie Johannes and why is she a perfect fit for Student Ambassador?”

Both good questions, for sure. We’ll work on the first one and get back to you. In the meantime, here are answers to the second quandary, in Maddie’s own words:

How would you define yourself?

I grew up in Fredonia and graduated from Northern Ozaukee in 2014. I have an older sister Niki, her husband Michael, my new niece Riley, and my younger brother Noah. My parents also have two adorable dogs Henry and Archie. My parents are so supportive of my education and career. I currently live in Grafton with my fiance Joe. We are having a lot of fun planning our wedding for July 2017. I love preforming arts and have been in 17 productions. I so love to volunteer and have had the opportunity at Big Brothers Big Sisters, Balance Inc. and Special Olympics.

Why Moraine Park?

I chose Moraine Park because it was the only school that made me feel like everyone here wanted me to succeed. Having the support I need is something that I always look for in a college. My first year in college I had transferred twice, and was enrolled in another school before coming to Moraine Park. My other experiences helped me to see that Moraine Park was the campus that challenged me academically and socially, which lead to boosting my grades and confidence. Something I love about Moraine Park is that I am not just a number here, the staff recognizes students and wants them to be successful. Moraine Park is a place where I can be myself and be noticed.

What program are you in, and what reasons were behind that choice?

I am very excited to be going into the Human Resource program. I am very excited to explore my options and learn new things about myself and new skills. These past couple months I realized I have such a wide variety of career paths I can go down, and I will not limit myself. I love helping people and planning so I feel this is a great program for  myself.

What are your career goals?

After I get my Associates Degree in Human Resources I’d like to work for a larger company or a college. I really like interacting with others and feel as though this would be a great opportunity. One of my career goals is to work aboard for a couple years. I would also like to get my bachelors and eventually my MBA.

What’s it like so far being our Student Ambassador?

Being Student Ambassador thus far has given me the opportunity to network with many people at MPTC and the community. I have gotten to speak in front of faculty, which was a great experience to be able to tell my instructors how much their support has meant to me. I’ve been able to visit all the campuses and interact with staff and students. In this short amount of time I have grown in my leadership and confidence skills. I love promoting Moraine Park and cannot wait to see what the rest of the year holds.
