Who should get tutoring? Isn’t it just for people who are doing poorly in their courses?

Anyone can benefit from tutoring! Tutoring can help maintain or improve a grade as well as make the difference between passing and failing a course. It can help students ease anxiety about difficult courses, deepen understanding and retention of course content, and help develop more effective study skills.

How can a tutor help me?

Your tutor will work with you to help understand where you are having difficulty. A tutor can help you gain new perspectives on your learning by asking questions, explaining concepts in different ways, sharing examples and resources, suggesting study strategies, providing encouragement, and more.

What DON’T tutors do?

Tutors will not do the work for you, edit, correct, fix, or tell you what to write. They cannot provide feedback about grades, guarantee success in a class, tell you what will be on a test, or assist with take-home exams.

Who are the tutors? What are their credentials?

The majority of tutors are Moraine Park students who have successfully completed the courses they tutor or who have received a faculty recommendation. Some are also adjunct faculty or semi-retired professionals.

Will my tutor share information from my tutoring session with my instructor?

No, your tutoring session is confidential.

Can I get a tutor for more than one of my courses?

Yes, you may request a tutor for as many courses as you need and can receive up to four hours of tutoring per week, per course. While a match is not guaranteed, every effort is made to connect you with the academic support necessary for success.

How much do I have to pay my tutor?

Nothing! Tutoring services are available at no additional cost to students currently enrolled in courses at MPTC.

How do I request a tutor?

The best way to request a tutor is to complete an online tutor request form by following this link: https://www.morainepark.edu/services/student-resources/tutoring/tutor-request/ or by signing on to MyMPTC – Student tab – Common Student Forms and Requests. Be sure to fill in all of the required fields before submitting the request. You can also call or email Tutoring Services at mduran1@morainepark.edu or 920-924-6488. Requests are also accepted through instructors, academic advisors, and other staff.

What should I do if I have a problem with my tutor?

If a mismatch is made, we will do our best to match with someone who better meets your needs. If you have any questions or concerns about tutoring services, contact the Tutoring Services Specialist, Michelle at 920-924-6488 or mduran1@morainepark.edu.
