I’m Colin Brenner, I live in Mt. Calvary on my parent’s dairy farm. I have helped them with the farm since I was able to walk. I enjoy fishing, hunting, watching the Brewers and the Packers.

Why did you choose your program of study?

I chose the mechanical design program because I took some design classes in high school and found that I was very good at it and really enjoyed it.

What was your experience like at Moraine Park?

I have really enjoyed my classes at Moraine Park.  And, I enjoyed student life events such as bingo, free lunch/breakfast, and when they have a comedian/entertainment.

Where were you hired?

I was hired at J.F. Ahern Co. as a Design Intern in the spring of 2016, this was before my classes even began at Moraine Park. I was able to work in the mechanical design field part-time for three months before taking any classes. It was nice to work in the field because it gave me an idea of what the real world design field is like and it showed me that mechanical design is what I want to do. I have been with Ahern throughout my program as an intern and just before this last semester my manager asked me to stay and will likely offer me a full-time position this spring once I have graduated.

What are your future career goals?

My goal is to work at J.F. Ahern Co. full time.

What advice do you have for others considering a career in mechanical design?

I suggest job shadowing with companies that hire mechanical designers, this is how you can see first-hand what the career field looks like. Even better, get a part-time job in the field because it looks good on your resume.  I also suggest joining in on student life clubs and activities.

Congratulations to Colin on his upcoming graduation (May 19) and we wish him much success at J.F. Ahern!
