Moraine Park ranked 8th in Military Times’s Best for Vets: Career & Technical Colleges 2017. The list, comprised of 24 schools, recognizes career and technical colleges for their commitment to educating and providing opportunities to America’s veterans.

This is the second consecutive year Moraine Park has finished in the Top 10 of “Best for Vets,” with the College placing 9th on last year’s list.

“Our sustained high rankings in Best for Vets validate the proactive work Moraine Park has been doing, not only in providing above and beyond services to our military students and student veterans, but also in educating our staff in serving this unique sector of our student population,” said Lt. Col. Scott Lieburn, U.S. Air Force, and dean of students at Moraine Park. “As a veteran myself, I couldn’t be prouder of Moraine Park and our commitment to educating and providing opportunities to America’s veterans, service members and families.”

Colleges and universities across the country were invited to fill out a rigorous survey, comprising of well over 100 questions, about their operations involving current and former service members and their families.url

Schools that identified themselves primarily as career and technical institutions were evaluated in five categories: university culture, student support, academic outcomes/quality, academic policies and financial aid.

Moraine Park offers a number of programs approved for VA benefits and courses with a variety of flexible scheduling that is attractive to student veterans and military students alike. Student veteran specialists and advisors provide one-on-one attention in a culture that supports and understands the challenges veterans can have transitioning into college life. In addition, student veterans can become a member of the Student Veterans Association on campus.

The “Best for Vets” distinction also comes at a special time for Moraine Park, which proclaimed its 2016-17 academic year its “Year of the Student Veteran.” The College has hosted several events on all of its campuses this fall to honor veteran and military students and has additional events planned for the Spring Semester.
