Medical lab tech students attend state convention

Our academic year is winding down quickly! I am sure that the students graduating in May feel like the semester flew by! This year, as in past years, the prospective graduates attended the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) Wisconsin annual convention April 3 – 5. This event allows students to network with others in the profession, meet with recruiters, learn about trends in laboratory medicine and compete in the student bowl.  As an Medical Lab Technician (MLT), they will work in a field that studies body fluids to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment.

This year all of our MLT clinical students participated in the student bowl, so we were able to have two teams. This is a great learning opportunity for the students! All of the participants had a good time and thought that the experience was worthwhile.  This event was sponsored by MPTC’s Student Senate, which helped cover the cost for the students’ lodging and participation.

The next big step for our upcoming grads is to pass the ASCP Board of Certification Exam and I am confident that all of them will be successful! This is a great group of students that are very committed to laboratory medicine!
