Fond du Lac Senior Center received 2018 Community Partnership Award!

Award Recipients

Moraine Park Technical College has presented the Fond du Lac Senior Center with its 2018 Community Partnership Award. This award recognizes a community non-profit organization or business partner who has gone above and beyond in their role of working with Moraine Park students in service-learning opportunities.

Since the fall of 2015, the Moraine Park Technical College Information Technology(IT) club students have had the opportunity to host Tech Tyme for two-hours every Thursday at the senior center. This opportunity was presented to address a need expressed by the senior center, to help the older population navigate the ever-changing world of technology.

“A few years ago, we noticed that many of the seniors here at the Fond du Lac Senior Center were having difficulties navigating their technology. We reached out to Moraine Park and together with the students we created Tech Tyme,” said Sarah Docter, Fond du Lac Senior Center program director and outreach and wellness coordinator. “Working with Moraine Park to turn our vision into reality has been an awesome experience for us and our participants.  We never imagined that this program would impact almost 500 people so far. We are so honored to be the recipient of Moraine Park’s Community Partnership Award, and we are looking for additional ways that we can work together in the future.”

Moraine Park Technical College works to bring quality education to the students, which in turn will benefit the communities that they live and work. Tech Tyme serves as a service-learning initiative at the College. Students who participate are required to log their volunteer hours, which count towards earning a Service-Learning Award.  Opportunities such as this allow students to make community connections prior to graduation and work through real-life scenarios. The partnership created by Moraine Park Technical College and the Fond du Lac Senior Center has positively benefited both of the organizations, the student volunteers, and the seniors that are being served.
